You've probably heard the word "Reiki" mentioned. Maybe from a friend, maybe on social media, maybe from a therapist who suggested it alongside other things you're already doing.

And maybe you looked it up and found a lot of language about "universal life force energy" and "spiritual awakening" and thought: this isn't for me.

Fair enough. A lot of how Reiki gets talked about makes it sound more mystical than it needs to be. So here's a more grounded version.

What Reiki Actually Is

Reiki is a form of energy work that originated in Japan in the early 1900s. A practitioner uses focused intention to direct healing energy to specific areas of the body. In my practice, this is done without physical contact.

That's it. No incense required. No special beliefs. No chanting.

The theory is that your body has an energy system, and when that system gets disrupted by stress, illness, grief, or trauma, it can affect how you feel physically and emotionally. Reiki works to restore flow to that system.

You don't have to believe in energy work for it to be effective. You just have to be open to trying it.

What Happens During a Session

You lie down, fully clothed, in a quiet space. If it's a distance session, you're at home. If it's in person, you're in my practice space in the Bay Area.

We start with a brief conversation. What's going on in your life. What brought you here. What you're hoping for, if you know.

Then you rest. I work through your energy field, spending time on areas that feel blocked or heavy. For in-person sessions, I use crystal singing bowls tuned to 432 Hz. The sound is felt as much as heard.

Most people feel some combination of warmth, tingling, heaviness, or deep calm. Some people cry. Some people fall asleep. There's no wrong way to experience it.

Afterward, we check in. I share what I noticed. You share what you felt. We talk about what might support you going forward.

What Reiki Can Do

Reiki can help your nervous system settle. It can release tension you didn't know you were carrying. It can give your body permission to rest in a way that sleep sometimes can't.

People often report feeling calmer, sleeping better, and having more clarity after sessions. Chronic pain sometimes eases. Anxiety sometimes quiets.

I say "sometimes" because I'm not going to promise you a miracle. What I can tell you is that creating intentional space for your body to down-regulate is never wasted.

What Reiki Can't Do

Reiki is not a replacement for therapy. It's not a replacement for medication. It's not a cure for anything.

It's complementary care. It works alongside whatever else you're doing for your health, not instead of it. A good practitioner will tell you this upfront. If someone promises to heal your disease with energy work alone, walk away.

Is It for You?

Maybe. If you're curious, the easiest way to find out is to try it. A wellness consultation is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if this feels like something worth exploring.

No commitment. No pressure. Just a conversation.

If you're curious about Reiki and want to know more before committing, a consultation is a good place to start.
